I would also need to buy really good scissors because the one we have at home will not be good enough to cut through thick boxes. I was advised I would also need a lot of tissue and newspaper to fill into the hollow space of the letters in between sides. And a hell of a lot of glue.
I was totally intimidated just thinking about it. I was ready to give up when one of the girls from GT mentioned that there is a store in Market Market specializing in making these huge letters.
So last Saturday, Ayi and I visited Market Market before going to the Best Food Forward event in the NBC Tent. And I was so psyched to see Luisa Signature Arts and Crafts store!
The store is located in the Gift Market or tiangge section of Market Market, right beside Mercury Drug store. They were selling lots of paper mache letters and boxes. There were lots of boxes that are really nice and also plain ones. I specifically liked the embossed boxes that they were selling. I wanted to buy a couple of boxes but I know I didn't have any use for them at the moment!
I ordered our initials, M and I. They're 4 feet tall and really thick. They were kinda heavy too so I was not worried they will topple over. If we were sitting down, we would probably be level with these letters beside us. I made 50% down payment upon order, they cost Php 1,200 each and production time is 1 to 2 weeks.
I know I would have spent lesser if I DIY'ed it. But I might also spend more if I had to redo it many times. So I think this is meeting my projected expenses half way. And the good thing is, at least I am sure it will be sturdy and made by an expert.
I can't wait to pick it up! I will post pictures once I already have it.
